True Widow

On one of my episodes

True Widow. Trio out of Dallas, Texas: guitarist Dan Phillips, bassist Nicole Estill and drummer Tim 'Slim' Starks. They call their sound 'stonegaze': slow, heavy doom-rock riffs wrapped in shoegaze haze, with Phillips and Estill trading vocals. 'Jakyl' opens their second album, As High As the Highest Heavens and From the Center to the Circumference of the Earth (Kemado, 2011), which NPR premiered as a First Listen, calling the trio 'as hushed as it is ribcage-rattling.' Then came Circumambulation (2013) and Avvolgere (2016) on Relapse, and tours with Boris, Kurt Vile and ...And You Will Know Us by the Trail of Dead. Before the band, Phillips had been living in Boston and attending furniture-making school. In June 2026 Phillips and Estill debuted a new five-piece, Bad Stuff, with a self-titled album on Relapse.
