Mogwai formed in Glasgow in 1995 and have spent their career proving instrumental rock can carry as much narrative weight as any lyric. Stuart Braithwaite on guitar, Dominic Aitchison on bass, Martin Bulloch on drums and Barry Burns on keys, guitar and flute. Their trademark is dynamics: whispered, glacial passages that detonate into some of the loudest guitar music ever committed to tape, across Mogwai Young Team (1997), Come On Die Young (1999) and Happy Songs for Happy People (2003). 'Hunted by a Freak' opens that album, carried by Barry Burns' vocoder-treated vocal. More than 25 years in, they took As the Love Continues to No. 1 on the UK albums chart, a first for the band. And they run their own label, Rock Action Records, which turned 30 in 2026.
